You have to install the appropriate package. Which DB do you want to use?
What's in a sig? Would my posting look less if it didnot have a sig? (Free after William S.) :)

Then have a look in the [Lazarus Dir]/components/SQLdb. Install the package (.lpk file) you find there and then install the package from the [Lazarus Dir]/components/sqldb/mysql dir. For an explanation about how to install packages see this wiki page

Hi matthijs,

How does the mysql incompatible headers problem affect this How To?

In my opinion, that How To is a bit lite. Why not include valid test procedures to connect and test all three database systems?

Whoever wrote the How To was providing a much needed piece of work. Only they didn't go far enough. They possibly knew that there are currently problems connecting to Mysql, so they conviniently used another database system. as an example.

If Mysql is supposedly the most used DB system in the world, why not
not cure this festering Mysql connect db sore? "John Q. Public" should be
able to gain access to it and start to use it with its lazarus projects?

If I knew how to go about fixing this problem, I certainly would do so.

Hi,

The headers problem is not affected by this HOWTO. The mentioned HOWTO is only to guide new users into installing package and components. How to connect to databases and test procedures for this are / will be / should be part of the dtabase HOWTO.
I wrote the Install HOWTO, but did not conviniently take interbase as an example. I tested this on my Windows box and I don't run MySQL on that box.

Who says MySQL is the most used database? I have to disagree with you on "the cure this festering MySQL". There are some guys working hard on getting this up and running on MySQL 4.0 and from 4.0 to 4.1 the mysqlclient library changes. How do they have to keep up with this?

So, be a little less demanding as all the work done on the Lazarus project is done in peoples spare time, they don't get paid for it.

Hi There,

If I gave the impression that I did not appreciate the hard work you
guys do free of charge in your spare time, I sincerely want to offer
an apology. It was definitely not my intent to belittle or minimize your efforts.

I've seen it in several computer journals that "MYSQL" if not the
most commonly used database system, it is certainly in that group.
They have also mentioned a similiar claim some of their documentation.
If that is not so, you certainly can take it up with them. I am only one
of their users, not an investor.

People tend to give more significance to things they more closely
relate to. I have been a MYSQL user for about five years, and its
free to those of us who are not using it commercially.

Again, sorry if I nudged you in a negative manner; it is not my intent
to alienate you in any form whatsoever.
