This is almost enough to make me want to just delete lazarus and forget I ever heard of it.

I am using ubuntu 9.1 on an AMD64 Compaq Presario SR1710NX (whole hard drive dedicated to linux)

I have the out of the box 'system/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager/ version of Lazarus 9.26...  (not sure if they will ever update it again looks like not)

IDE appears to work fine, I can create programs, run then in the IDE, etc, all works fine. Then I save the project in a new directory or even in the default directory (which for some reason is always the last place I saved a project) all appears to be fine. However, if I then leave lazarus and go to the file manager for that directory and dbl-click on the .lpr file, it pulls up lazarus with a blank form like I havent done a damn thing for the last 2 hours. This is really getting frustrating. I have tried several programs, and it is always the same, pulls up what looks like my project name with a clean slate, blank form, blank .pas file, etc. I am including a tar file of a simple hello world project. Anybody out there ever encountered this one yet????

May have solved the problem: After installing laz, I set file properties on all the laz files to 'open with' lazarus. This doesn't work. I went back and changed all the properties to open with gedit or nothing (except the .pas files)  Now after opening lazarus, I can open a .lpr file (with lazarus) and it will ask if I want to load the project and all is fine. If I try to 'open recent' I still get the bad behavior of blank form etc. I can work with this now, so will keep lazarus for another few days at least.

download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lazarus/files/  a deb version (i386 or amd64) depends on your architecture.

the installation is just doble click

Have you checked how Lazarus is launched in Linux, the actual command line in the Ubuntu menu? It's :

Code: [Select]
startlazarus %f
Try it that way in "Open with" (custom command).

Instead of using Synaptic in Ubuntu 9.10 do this: (Short version - get Lazarus). It works perfectly and it's very simple.

Yes the script file worked very well for my Ubuntu 9.10 installation.

Its is better than getting from synaptic or directly from the site.

thanks
