Fresnel web site
« on: October 02, 2026, 02:58:06 pm »
I recently discovered—with great pleasure—that a website dedicated to the Fresnel project has been launched. I'm not sure if this has already been announced here. In doubt, this is the address:

https://fresnel.freepascal.org/

I believe this initiative deserves due attention, as it is potentially very significant. A big thank you to the developers.

I'm not really in the market for it, as CSS based GUIs don't really solve any problems for me, but a quick glance is confusing to what the win32 backend really is.

Does the "Win32 windows, Skia drawing" mean either-or, or does it require SKIA on Windows ? (which would be a step back from LCL, having to deploy dlls for simple programs)

This is a valid question.

If Skia is necessary (and I hope it isn't, anyway), then FPC 3.3.1 is required with Fresnel.

And in general I don't see the site discuss the scenarios where such a GUI would be beneficial. It is more "here it is", but it is unclear what problem it tackles.

For me the interesting part is the additional WebAssembly and Android targets for the same Lazarus IDE-style "build UI with form designer, add code for behaviour" programming.

I've tested a bit live, section Standard dialogs does not work for blocking (modal) dialogs, dialog flashes and closes imediatelly. Non blocking dialogs works. Section "Messages and question dialogs" , eg Infomation dialog is shown, then I click on the parent form, dialog vanishes and then I cannot click and start any of dialogs - buttons are "frozen".
