A note for early AIDEa users
Hello everyone,
I have noticed that the AIDEa executable packages for both Linux and Windows have already been downloaded by a number of people, but in several cases without the remaining parts of the AIDEa installation environment.
Please be aware that the executable package alone is not sufficient to run AIDEa correctly. At a minimum, AIDEa requires the environment package and a development language package to be installed and configured.
Installing and configuring AIDEa should be straightforward and should take only a minute or two. Please follow the AIDEa V1 Quick User Guide, which takes you through the required packages, development language and compiler configuration so that you can quickly get to a working installation.
Also, you do not need to be an experienced Pascal programmer to experiment with AIDEa. Modern AI systems such as Claude and OpenAI models are capable of developing Free Pascal code. AIDEa's AI Initiator and Exchange workflow is specifically designed to allow the AI to work within AIDEa's engineering process: you describe what you want to achieve, the AI can request the project information it needs, and AIDEa governs the resulting implementation before you decide whether to apply it.
In practice, this means that you can experiment with developing Pascal applications through AIDEa and AI assistance without needing to work directly with the source code unless you want to.
I am aware that the environment is still not as polished as I would like. This is also one of the reasons I have made these early Beta versions of AIDEa publicly available. There is a limit to the combinations of operating systems, installations, toolchains and usage patterns that I can test myself, and wider use will uncover bugs and issues that are difficult to discover in a limited testing environment.
So if you try AIDEa, feedback and bug reports are very welcome. Even reports about installation difficulties, confusing behaviour or things that simply don't work as you expected are useful at this stage.
Thank you to everyone who has already downloaded and started experimenting with AIDEa.
