Installation on ASPLinux v10: problems with codepage

Hi!
I'm newbie in Linux programming, but I have quite good experience in Win 32 programming using Delphi. So that's why I want to try myself in Linux programming. I have installed fpc 1.9.6 and compiled Lazarus 0.9.4 beta. I'm from Russia, so my locale settings are cp1251. After Lazarus' compilation some window appears. But I can't read anything except Envitonment -> etc. I guess, that Lazarus can't find fpc directory. But other words are in strange codepage: like koi8 under Windows (strange russian letters meaning nothing). Please help me to set correct codepage.

In Russia we have at least 2 frequently used codepages: KOI-8R and WIN1251.  Generally in Linux it's KOI-8R, but in Windows and ASPLinux - WIN1251. The default Lazarus codepage for Russian is KOI-8R and sometimes it's a problem.

I solved my problem (with improper Polish charset) in Environment settings -> Desktop. I had to save the setting to a file, but after Laz restarted I could safely remove this file. AFAIR there is Russian Cp1251 codepage in there.

Yes, I'm really from Russia "Strange russian letters" mean something like that "ЪШРОВНКФХЪЖД" I can't use Environment -> Desktop because I can't read any menu caption But using this limk http://lazarus.by.ru/articles/install_lazarus.html I hope I can solve my problem.
