I avoid AI, hence my amusement. This could not have happened by accident, it’s a feature.

That is  common sence in order to save a lot of your time and nerves "arguing" with mindless LLM guessing machine!

There is no "I" of inteligence with AI, just endless guessing with code copy & paste and trying, context losing etc, etc. I have wasted one full weekend testing many AIs on very simple tasks and I have lost nerves already!

I recently shared my thoughts regarding AI on my X/Facebook account:

Many see AI (Grok, Gemini, etc) as a form of intelligence or even a sentient entity. But it's not. AI is much like an old school software compiler: data input -> data processing -> data output. Only the data processing is different:

- Compilers are symbolic and rule-based with clear semantics (errors not permitted).
- AI is statistical - it approximates rather than proves, which can result in confident wrong output.

So there's nothing 'magical' about AI. It doesn't breathe, feel or think. It's software programmed by humans to analyze existing data, which can be anything from text to images to audio to video, and duplicate/rearrange that data based on estimates.

In this respect the name "artificial intelligence" is misleading, because it's not truly intelligent like humans are - AI tools are not intuitive and cannot make decisions other than true/false due to its binary nature.

The most disturbing thing about this AI craze is watching people that I once respected and thought were very smart giving up writing their own code and embracing AI. There are no more interesting conversations about pascal programming to be had, only “yay AI does all my programming for me!”

What is there to talk about anymore? I would probably be told to go use AI if I dared to ask a question.  What is the point of programming at all if you can’t be bothered to create your own code?
Maybe I’m just naive to think that hobbies are something people like to do. Once a machine is doing it for you you’re not a programmer anymore.
 The only positive thing that I can think of is that programming can exist outside the domain of computers. The people who still want to do their own thinking can find other hobbies I suppose.
