Lazarus Bugfix Release 4.8

The name of the official chm help file is doc-chm-fpc3.2.4-laz4.8-0.zip (see here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lazarus/files/Lazarus%20Documentation/Lazarus%204.8/).

The name suggests that it contains fpc 3.2.4 help files (not fpc 3.2.2, which is what the official version is compiled with).
Is it a mistake just in naming the file or are fpc help files from release candidate accidentally included, or is it deliberate for some reason?

The file does NOT contain FPC docs for 3.2.4... it contains the 3.2.2 help files from May 2021. To my knowledge, help for FPC 3.2.4 has never been generated. It does have help for Lazarus 4.8.

I don't know / have to ask Mattias. But probably he did build the fpc helps from the fixes branch. That may have happen because the Lazarus release for Mac must be bundled with a 3.2.4-fixes FPC, as the old one no longer works after Apple did some updates (afaik)

The official CHM is called doc-chm.zip  and is on the FPC download site.  FPC 3.2.4 is not out, probably that is some build of either 3.2.4RC1 or of the fixes branch, neither of which are official.

Post RC1 quite a lot was merged to e.g. sysutils, so definitions of e.g. type helpers might be quite a bit larger in the real 3.2.4 CHMs, when they land.

I've been using 4.8 for a while now (well, since it was released) and I've found a few issues:

• I still need to add the -WM10.15 to my fpc.cfg file to get projects to run;
• I still have to manually add the reference to controls added to a form - it is not done automatically;
• I still get an error when trying to add an event to a control;
• I still get errors complaining that it doesn't know about TObject;

and some new ones:

• The text in the watch window is far too small for me to read. And I can't find a way to increase the font size;
• Using the Project Group, with two projects in it, when I hit CMD+B to compile one project, it compiles the other. Even after manually loading the correct project.

This is on macOS Tahoe. I did an uninstall of the previous versions of Lazarus (4.2, 4.4 and a non-working 4.6), then a fresh install from SorceForge of 4.8 and FPC.

Sorry for the negative post - it is an otherwise excellent release.

I assign the icon directly in the properties. See screenshot.

Tested assigning a png to TBitBtn.Glyph with OpenSUSE, Laz 4.8, gtk2, qt5, qt6 -- no issue

So, I have found the following:

The BitBtns that are newly created in Lazarus 4.8 work without any issues.

However, BitBtns that come from a Lazarus 4.6 project lose their glyph in Lazarus 4.8 when the project is closed and reopened (although, strangely enough, this does not always happen). After compiling, however, the glyph is always missing from the application.

I have attached the project. The glyphs I use are 32x32 pixels. Screenshots showing my systems are included in the attached ZIP file.

Why do you assign an ImageIndex without an ImageList to the bitbtn? In v4.8, the glyph is erased by using ImageList/Imageindex as icon source. This has been fixed for Laz/main (https://gitlab.com/freepascal.org/lazarus/lazarus/-/work_items/42447) and will be available in the next release (v4.10 or v5.0, whichever comes first).
