Let's see...

Forum up and accessible.  47 Guests instead of 5000. And someone is complaining about Anubis....

Got it.

Bozo bin activated.

Yes, I have to a agree with Don, the forum is now usable again, thats the big issue.

I too have noticed that search terms and on one occasion, a long reply was lost while Anubis had a little think. Thats OK, search terms can be retyped and I now copy into the clipboard a reply before I click send. I don't mind !

I concur.

The improvement over the situation a week or two ago is night and day, well worth the rare occasion when some action may need to be re-done.

Personally, so far I have not experienced any problems at all.  Everything is working great :)

Marc, thank you again.

I suggested that you not put all your eggs in one basket…

That may sound a good idea. But ...
Maintaining a forum is difficult. Adding a new forum, irc, site or whatever, that means extra difficult.

But of course anyone who has time, manpower and resources, wants to try to start a new forum, irc, site or whatever, just do it as far as I know no need to ask permission.

Maybe it's just me,

But i don't get the complaints, you want the old situation? copy and pasting links, followed by slow and unresponsive? anubis is barely visible on this site and the least intrusive of the "prove you're not a bot" methods i've seen. no need to select traffic lights, cars or zebra crossings so you can help google in making their ai better at detecting stuff, no dragging things around, answer ridiculous questions or other annoying stuff. Of course you can try and ask your money back i guess.

The move for anubis is, i think, very sound and very defendable.

--Edit--
Sidenote: I also don't really get the "I lost my post" complaint, your browser has a "Back" button. when used it shows the typed message just as-is. no need to type again.

One thing I just noticed is that as I type this, the number of guests is 348. A couple of days ago, the maximum I had seen after Anubis was "activated" was in the low 50s.

So far that hasn't caused a problem.  The forum still feels very responsive but, it does create a little bit of a concern that it may be a prelude to experiencing gateway timeouts again.  Obviously, I hope not but, I see some "graffiti" on the wall. ;)

This weekend I allowed rss feeds to pass through. Maybe those are counted as guests

That would account for the sudden increase in guests.  So far, it doesn't seem to create any problems but, only time will tell.

That has worked for me before the weekend too. Even under Anubis.
I use simplexml_load_file under PHP (which doesn't do cookies).
( on URL https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss )
So I'm not sure what you changed.
At least Anubis didn't block those before the weekend.

I'm still fighting with this anubis problems, even I use quite normal browser settings. Almost 99% of time I can't reach to wiki pages for Lazarus/FPC. Also, when access to this forum pages, Anubis screenshot is always briefly shown and in 99% access is allowed, but often all is quite slow, thus at least login is successful. But sometimes, access is blocked before login page is even reached. Thus, protection agains agressive AI bots is quite weak, but in the same time quite effective against some members... ;)

Sometimes going back works for recovering sent messages, sometimes not. The bigger problem which is not being addressed is ai scrapers and https://aidatacentermap.org/

Please note that the Wiki and the Forum are running on completely different servers, different distro, different versions, different whatever and managed by different people. So anubis working on the Forum doesn't say anything about anubis running on the Wiki

I have a question about spiders...

Obviously we do want spiders such as the ones from Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing and others to scrape the forums in order to index it and make the information available to anyone who searches for it.

My question is: do those spiders (the ones that are good netizens) get somehow identified so they can scrape the site without Anubis getting in their way ?

Yeah... Google search for forum only last week (check under tools for other date-ranges):
