Anyone interested in a dark theme userscript?
« on: May 04, 2026, 06:02:24 am »
Would anyone here be interested in a dark theme for the forum?

The default white background is genuinely painful when everything else on my screen is dark and the room itself has very little light - the monitor just punches you in the eyes the moment you open the forum. So I made one for myself and have been using it for a while. It is a Tampermonkey userscript (JavaScript).

There are still a few things to polish. AFAIK Tampermonkey can auto-update userscripts, so I could host them on my server and you would always get the latest version automatically. Right now it is actually two separate scripts - I started with Unleashed-flavored syntax highlighting on the forum, then added a second one to make the whole forum dark. If there is interest, I will probably merge them into one, no real reason to keep them split.
FPC Unleashed - inline vars, tuples, statement expressions, array equality, compound assignments, indexed/lazy labels, no-RTTI & more. ⭐ Star it on GitHub!

The samples you posted look quite nice to me.  I would definitely try them out since I do have a preference for dark themes over bright ones.

Chrome has an option that make all sites dark by default.
Not all elements are colored perfectly, but 90% of them converted just fine.
On screenshot there is a preview of it.

I use Dark Reader, it works for the most part but not 100%...

As long as there is a non-dark option it is fine with me, but dark mode hurts, not helps, my eyes -really. I am 68, not 18...
I support your efforts, though, just make sure the sane option stays.

Blackboard and chalk (dark mode), that's what I am familiar with, just like pen, any color but white - or lemon juice ;) , and paper, usually white.

objects are fine constructs. You can even initialize them with constructors.
