IDE Editor (OS: Windows11), identifiability of active tab
« on: April 21, 2026, 10:04:35 pm »
Win11, Laz. 4.6, default light theme.
I find it mostly to be a bit hard to identify the active tab within the IDE Code Editor ("oh, which one of the tabs is the active one .... <search> ...").

Yes, i'd assume the underlying control might be OS based, but maybe i simply did not see yet a if there are related options.
I won't even expect the bg colors could be changed ... but maybe a different font color for the active tab's caption, or font bold?

Good you put your OS into the message... Your signature says something else...

No, there are no settings (except for the font size of the font in all tabs).

For me the active tab is white vs grey of the others. But I guess it may depend a lot on the monitor how noticeable that is....

I hear there is a package "PackageTabs" which replaces it, and is custom drawn... So at least it then could do custom settings, but I don't use it, and don't know if it does.

Thought i did so but i did it bad indeed  :o   ... sorry, corrected ...

Attached a screenshot from a Win11 laptop; puzzle: which one is the active tab?

I heard about this package "PackageTabs", but found the doc's screenshots rather off-putting, because most of the stuff i neither need not want to have besides the highlighted active tab. (At least not if there an alternative should exist).

Well, I actually immediately spotted it. Though the color diff me thinks is ever so slightly less than my Win 10 does (lucky I still get OS updates).

And that even though my screen is at reduced brightness. At full brightness it gets slightly better, but if I change the color-blue-level-presets, then I can make it hard to spot. And the experience varies on my other (older/less good) monitors (multi monitor setup). Strangely my 2nd best (by price/age) is the worst.

Anyway, there is no setting in the IDE. All related settings are in "Windows and Pages" under Editor in tools options.

You can play with the page control (or tab control???) on a form. Afaik there is no setting for what you want.

Ok, thanks Martin, so i can be sure that i'd not simply missed some already existing configuration capability.
Maybe i'll try the package mentioned.

Btw, my prob is only related to the IDE.  For programmed apps (where i mainly use PageControl), in Delphi7 it was rather easy by using custom drawing (sample attached).  In Lazarus i ended up in using the attabs component for own programs quite happily.
