How to start LAMW emulator?
« on: February 14, 2026, 12:44:46 pm »
Hi Folks,

I have successfully created my first ‚Hello World‘ Android apk and I am able to execute it without problems on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10. I am running Lazarus and LAMW under Linux Mint Cinnamon, latest release.

For testing more complex apps I would like to use the Android SDK emulator that comes with the LAMW package. It is located in /LAMW/sdk/emulator, and I have successfully created a virtual device for it using avdmanager.

Unfortunately, I am unable to start the emulator. I had no success trying it from the terminal (error 'cannot run binary', despite chmod +x) or by just double-clicking it in the file manager (nothing happens).

TLDR: how do you start the LAMW built-in Sdk emulator under Linux Mint?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi!

Самый простой способ, это установить Android Studio и использовать AVD оттуда.
Другой способ можно поискать в интернете, например какие-то ответы есть здесь и здесь. Но в большинстве случаев ни где не указано как создавать нужный эмулятор, а только как его использовать.

--------------------
Google tranlate:
The easiest way is to install Android Studio and use the AVD from there.
Alternatively, you can search online. For example, there are some answers here and here. But in most cases, there's no explanation of how to create the required emulator, only how to use it.

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply! I followed your advise and installed Android Studio. It indeed seems to be the best way for testing self-coded apps :D!

However, during the import of my compiled APK into the emulator the virus scanner came up with an alert:
It detected "Trojan-Spy.AndroidOS.Agent" in the "resources.arsc" part of the APK. Can I just ignore this, or is it a possible infection of LAMW packages that were installed using LAMW manager scripts?

I rather tend to believe it is something like this:
