I've been working with Ubuntu 24.04 and Lazarus 4.4 for about a month now, and am thinking about starting over entirely with an older (Wayland-free, Snap less) Linux OS and an older version of Lazarus.  I would welcome inputs on the Linux & Lazarus combination to consider that works together well.  I think most of the problems I'm experiencing are due to Ubuntu 24.  They have tightened their security approach so much that there are things I've not been able to find work-arounds for.   I long for the stability of my old Ubuntu 18 Lazarus 4-2 (32-bit) system...

There is no FPC + Lazarus releases which works well...

For Linux, I can say only from my experience. I have installed Kubuntu 24.10 while ago and it come only with Wayland, there is no way to switch to X11 anymore, unless install xorg additionally, then you can switch to X11 during login. And under Wayland, there is no way that IDE works correctly, nor applications made with Lazarus. Lazarus and FPC are locked to X11 and GTK2 for now. I think GTK3 was and still is not finished (I can't see roadmap due some AI nonsense limitation).

Probably there is no way that GTK3 widgetset ever be finished nor full Wayland support. Thus also applications are locked to GTK2 as well. I do not know for Qt5, Željan Rikalo  (zeljko here) can say more as he is the only person who worked on it, IIRC.

Hi
I'm on PCLinuxOS and
· we've got Fpc 3.2.2 & Lazarus 4.4 in our repo
· lazarus runs really well with Qt-4/5/6 widget-sets, by now we only have Qt6
· wayland is optional, most of us run X11
· FpcUpDeluxe works like charm here

It's well worth a try...
Regards Benny
If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)
PCLinuxOS(rolling release) 64bit -> KDE6/QT6 -> FPC Release -> Lazarus Release &  FPC Main -> Lazarus Main

Qt6 is stable and the ONLY option if you want to be current.
If Europe sells their USA bonds the USD will collapse. Europe can affort that given average state debts. The USA can't affort that. Just an advice...

I do not want to be current and I do not want your posts nor your opinion in my threads and you know very well why.
