Object Inspector is "gone"
« on: January 24, 2026, 03:24:40 pm »
I use the docking for the IDE. Every now and then the layout is "broken". But usually that is no more than dragging the "splitters" back to the right position and then it is back to normal. But now the object inspector is "gone" in the docked environment, I can't get it back.
Well if I undock but that's not what I want. How can I see the object inspector again in the docked environment?. (I tried F11).
?

I don't know the exact reasons in your case.

I have observed occasionally that dock-areas go "outside" the main window. Then the splitter can't be reached anymore.

Some reports said that happened when dpi was changed. But I don't know.

I recall doing some attempts to force the splitters inside, but IIRC that didn't go as planed. Its a while back, not sure if any of it went into 4.99 or not. Would have to check all the commit history. But even if, that wouldn't fix it, just attempt to reduce the damage.

Do yourself a favor and disable the "Auto-save" option on the Window > Desktops dialog. I don't know why that's the default... but it is. This will force you to save any layout changes to make them permanent... but your mistakes do not become permanent that way either.

Is the Object Inspector minimized or just not visible? On KDE, pressing F11 when the OI is minimized causes it to reappear. If it is not visible, use View > Object Inspector to display the floating OI dialog. Dock it, adjust splitters, and save your active desktop.

The object inspector can be reached again. I had pulled the editor out of the docking, and after a lot of fiddling got it back in the right place and then I was able to reach the right splitter again. This is probably of no use to anyone, but I can move on.
