PeaZip project turns 20 this year
« on: January 18, 2026, 01:52:28 pm »
20 years ago, about this time of the year, I was starting Pea-Peach project, which would have become PeaZip later that year.

Lazarus IDE was my choice as the best option to maintain a native application over multiple platforms and architectures.
Also, the availability of the excellent Open Source math and cryptography library from the late Wolfgang Ehrhardt was a key factor in selecting Delphi/FreePascal as language for the project.

Computing landscape and users expectations sure changed a lot in those two decades, and users feedback was pivotal to keep the project on track in evolving alongside the ever changing needs and potentialities.

If you want to read more, and see some screenshots of the GUI updates from 2006 onward, you can find the Reddit post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/PeaZip/comments/1qg51cz/20_years_of_peazip/
