I don't think so, it was about 2.2.4: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,7209.15.html
it's only about cross-compiling. will be fixed.

native compiler should install without problems.

Why are there separate Lazarus disk images for FPC release versions? I think it would be better to only use the official releases, that would avoid any possible problems in the first place.

The first Lazarus snapshots were based fpc snapshots (not releases). Later I decided to simply change from trunk or a fixes branch to a tagged version for building the fpc disk images.

For a while this turned out to be a good choice, especially when fpc 2.2.0 was released with a bug in the cfileutils unit (see svn) and I could build a fixed fpc disk image.

Now, I think I should take the extra MB's for the docs for granted and use the stable version.

Does it mean, that lazarus should give up using its own FPC build and suggest users to install official packages? (at least for OSX?)

Yes, I think so. At least for lazarus builds that use releases. That is already done for the debs.
