macOS 14+ Install Instructions Posted to Wiki

(1/1)

RussellM72:
I've tried my hand at editing the wiki with instructions for how to install on versions of macOS 14, 15, & 26.

What I wrote is mostly based on this forum post: https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,72497.0.html

You can take a look at my edits here: https://wiki.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus_on_macOS

I added a new section at the top titled: Installation on macOS 14+ (Sonoma (14.x), Sequoia (15.x), & Tahoe (26.x))

I can't believe how much time it took me and I'm sure it's not perfect but, I think it might help people with newer Macs to be able to install Lazarus & FPC. (It would have helped me.)

Anyway, if anyone has feedback on what I wrote, please share it. Also, please be kind. I'm no expert (I barely know what I'm doing) but, I just wanted to help others avoid going through what I went through to get Lazarus running on macOS Tahoe.

Thats good Russell, good indeed. Minor grammar, second para "This method means you don't have to modify fpc.cfg everywhere, nor do will you have to set -WM10.15 everywhere". Either the 'do' or 'will' should go.

You now have a job for life !

(I used to put some effort into maintaining this page even though I no longer have a current Mac. But after an encounter with  an aggressive and unpleasant Mac user, I stopped. So, its yours now !)

I noticed the instruction to run xattr -cr against the downloaded lazarus...zip file on sourceforge. The named file is out of date I think. However macOS 15.7.4 seems to automatically unzip the downloaded file.  It appears running xattr -cr against the unzipped 'lazarus' folder has the same affect and fixed all the 'cannot open' / 'file damaged' messages when trying to simply run the content of the folder and fix issues via "System Settings / Privacy & Security".

I think it is not MacOS, but Safari which does this, it should be fixable (“safari automatically unzip downloaded files” in google).
