a dice game :)
« on: October 09, 2025, 05:54:17 am »
This game is called "Klondike Bill" in Tim Hartnell's book. I've called it "Dice Poker"; but I don't know the correct name! There is a solitaire game called Klondike solitaire (but this isn't it). :)

If anyone recognises the game, please post a message with the game's name!!!

Anyway, name aside, the game is very simple, you "roll" 5 dice (and can see 2 of the computer's dice); then you make a bet and finalise the hand. Neither player can discard / re-draw. The deciding of the winner is also very simple, Straights are worthless; pairs, three--of-kind etc are where it is at. :) The best hand is five-of-a-kind (but five x 1 is equal to five x 6)!

Despite, all the above the game is enjoyable.

Due to censorship, I changed this to "Nelly the Elephant". Keeps the message clear.

Yatzee?

Thanks for replying. According to the wiki page "The dice can be rolled up to three times in a turn to try to make various scoring combinations"; the dice game I posted has no re-draw option...

I found a yahtzee strategy guide which mentions "1-turn Yahtzee", which is somewhat similar to the game I posted. Instead of the normal 13 hands of Yahtzee, the winner is the player with the highest score (after 2 re-rolls), using any of the 13 Yahtzee scoring categories. It has no betting though.
