Restore IDE layout
« on: August 31, 2025, 09:06:10 am »
Hi all,

I am using the latest version of Lazarus on Windows with the docked layout.

I don't know how I made it but the source editor is not docked anymore, and even the others forms are undocked (breakpoint, messages...)

I am not able to restore the predefined layout nor to dock source editor in the centre of the screen.

It is necessary to delete all the configuration files and restart Lazarus or it is possible to restore layout using an IDE's feature ?

Many thanks

When the IDE windows get messy, for example due to some inadvertent mouse movement, I use the Tools > Desktops and then I double-click on "default docked." You can also use the shortcut shown in the attached screenshot. With the Desktops function, you can save IDE window configurations and restore them later.

Why can't you pin the window again? Just grab the "Source Editor" window title (not the actual window title, but the one underneath - see attached image) and drag it to the main window (with menu).

This title can be displayed on either side of the window. If you can't see it, turn on the display of titles in the options. More details in this article: https://wiki.freepascal.org/Anchor_Docking#Installation

Unfortunately, I don't know if it's possible to do this via the IDE, and I think I've even seen a feature request for it. This section describes how you can do it manually: https://wiki.freepascal.org/Anchor_Docking#Important_to_macOS_users

Be sure to back up your configuration!

Unfortunately, "default docked" is just the default name for the desktop (the default is the name, not the desktop). If the IDE was already closed, it saved the layout to the desktop with this name, and selecting it will not change anything.

Thank you n7800 I re build manually the layout by grabbing each "window" and moving where it has to stay.
