hello,
That's true. Sorry. %)
I am using last version 4.0.
For exemple, compilation of BGRA image is ok but when i rebuild IDE i have famous link error.
So i have to remove the BG package (curious name...) and rebuild the IDE.
Thank's for your help.

Problem like that can be because you might not have some linux libs installed. Check the following: libx11-dev libgtk2.0-dev libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev libcairo2-dev libpango1.0-dev libxtst-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libatk-adaptor
You can install them with: sudo apt install ....
And then try installing bgra again.

Hi
Quote
What's about lazarus 4.99 version from fpcdeluxe ?
That, my friend, is the 'main' development-version also known as 'trunk', this is the /never-never-land/ where all the new features are implemented, tested and eventually living -- to be incorporated into the next release version of Lazarus. It changes every day and is thus not generally recommended for production- (or beginner-) use.
I myself use 4.99 as my 'daily driver' for development and keep an additional installation of FPC-release / Lazarus-release, for production compilation and general sanity-checking...

@ WP
I deleted my Linux Mint VM in the meanwhile, because I could not use it with Laz 4.0 and went back to Win 7 as OS.
Can you confirm, that 4.0 gives troubles and 4.2 does not?

I want to find out, if a re-try makes sense.

@Nicole:

You should not ask someone to "WHAT OS SHALL I USE" !
This is a Question and Decision of your own.

Nobody can advise you what OS is the best for your needs.

My personal intitution is: NOT TO HAVE TWO OS TO MAINTAIN.
What is, if you have 100 OS on your Computer, and you only know about 1.

Please remember and power up your Brain - this on your Decision's and not to ask ...

The point is: specialization !

I have several Linux VMs mostly created some time ago; they have the Laz release of that time. Based on the FPC which comes with them I usually build Laz/main from source. I never had any serious problems with these Lazarus versions. I do not have v4.0, but do not believe that I would have had trouble with it. Currently my favourite is Manjaro because it very easily gives access to gtk3, qt5 and qt6 widgetsets; the Debian-based distributions (Ubuntu, Mint) have the issue that their software is rather old, and it is difficult for a non-Linux expert (like me) to set up these widgetsets.

@ WP thank you.

@ Paule: I want to change from Windows (which I know from scratch) to Linux (which is not under the control of MS and I have no idea of). I want to change step by step: First setting up my Lazarus VM, then the rest of my software, which all is in Windows now. After this explode the VM to the host and use only one for all. I have about 100 apps to substitute.

To change at once would paralyze me for weeks.

All my plans stopped very early. I was not able to bring Lazarus 4.0 to work in my Linux Mint Cinnamon. So I wonder if 4.2. will bring me the same troubles. (details in old threads of mine)

I could not even bring shared folders to run in my Linux cinnamon machine (VMWare 17). This means, that my backup of collected software was not available. My Linux way was a really frustrating one. It would have been easy to motivate me to restart, if Werner had shouted: "yes, this was only 4.0.  4.2. will work." - unfortunately he did not.

@Nicole:

To share Directories from Windows to Linux and back you need the Tool SAMBA.

But thinking over:
- Linux must be maintain by yourself
- Linux Distributions "Call to Home" - firstly, if you update the System
- Linux have other Roots as Windows and back
- Linux is not Free of ALL
- Linux is Fruggelware and have many Tailorware

- Windows is growed from Ground up since XP
- the Services costs Money, yes, but you get Real Time Support for your Business
- Windows is a Business Software - not primary for Home Customers
- Windows Application's want to be solded, which means the Programmers need Money for their life (Drinks, Foods, ...)

- Linux is not primary build to earn Money ...
