Lazarus 4.0 RC3
« on: June 17, 2025, 03:15:16 pm »
Hey guys,
Window Project Options: trying to use another image as app icon than the default. Looks grayed. The cursor is on 0 (instead 1 with the default icon), I cannot move it to resize the image.

Is this a bug in RC3?

Can´t wait to see the definitive version 4.0 !

Kind regards,

pax_be

Yes, we are sure. Probably wrong website.
So WHICH website? If you navigate from here you will get the true release.

Due to censorship, I changed this to "Nelly the Elephant". Keeps the message clear.

Lazarus 4.0 (rev lazarus_4_0RC3-55-g9d15c73c91) FPC 3.2.2 x86_64-linux-gtk2

that is strange...

(g)9d15c73c91 => that is the revision of the final 4.0 release.

Not sure why/how it says RC3 in there

Thanks for the reply Fred vS.
Indeed, it seemed to be the same problem. So I applied your solution, but without success: my icon was not compressed. When I tried to compress it, Lazarus complained that it could not use it.
By the way, I never had that problem, also with Lazarus 3.8 my icon was rendered fine...

Did you convert your .ico to .png and use that .png as icon?

That's 4.0 (to be exact: 4.0.0.4), not 4.0RC3. I just double checked and installed it.

So this morning I downloaded the whole package again from https://www.lazarus-ide.org/ - Other - Linux RPM 64 bits.
To make sure I would install this version, I performed an uninstall of the Lazarus and FPC package + deleted the directory ".lazarus" from my home directory.
Then I reinstalled Lazarus from the install dir with the OpenSuse Leap 15.6 command "zypper install *.RPM". This installed the binaries in the order fp-laz, fpc-src, lazarus project...

Sorry Matthias, same result (see screenshot).

No, I did the reversed handling. Tried with both the .png and .ico, same result. I think, the problem is that I cannot move the cursor to 1. However I can move it when I'm using the default icon.

pax, just wondering, by changing that icon, what do you expect to change ?

Linux uses the icon in, eg /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/$APPNAME.png and some times the one pointed to by your desktop file.

I think something uses the embedded but unsure what it is. Generally, the above applies.

(And, I note your new install of Lazarus rc3 now has yesterday's build date - what on earth is happening there ?)

That icon should represent the logo of my application. Indeed, it is used by the Linux desktop.
