touch screens
« on: June 10, 2025, 08:47:28 am »
I have a partially broken laptop obtained - repossessed - from my 17 year old daughter (ssd unfindable, suddeny) with a touch screen. Due to the unfindable disk I am running it with Ubuntu 24 LTS from a USB stick. Seems to do OK with Lazarus, but I am wondering where I can find more info about the touch screen interfacing and maybe some killer apps to get more of a feel on what I can do with it. (it can turn into a tablet, used to run win11)
Repairing it costs probably more than buying a new one, so my daughter is happy with her new Ryzen 7 based laptop, just in case you suspect I deprive my daughter from essentials.
My question is: anybody developing specifically for touch screens?
Any suggestions are welcome. There seem to be more options than just mimicking the mouse.

I don't know if it can be useful but in ZenGl there is a file "zgl_touch.pas"

Hi,

@Thaddy:

I didn't find the technical manual for that laptop.

Try:

https://www.ifixit.com/Search?doctype=guide&query=Acer%20Spin%20

And

https://manualsnet.com/acer/laptop

When you boot on the internal SSD, did you just have a black screen?
Can you enter Bios/efi?

When you boot on the linux USB Stick do you see the internal SSD?

I've already had this kind of problem on a laptop after a Windows update.

You'd have to be sure the SSD is dead; it happens. I recently had two external SSDs,
1TB and 500GB, that had the same problem: they couldn't be reformatted.

Good Luck

Google translate:
No, it won't be possible to use it at the moment. I haven't made any changes for Linux/Windows/MacOS OS with touchscreen support. Initially, there should be initial touchscreen support in the OS. And for ZenGL additional functionality should be made, and the file "zgl_touch.pas" will work automatically if touchscreen is detected for desktop systems.
