[solved] Lost in Flamrobin's versions
« on: June 09, 2025, 01:30:01 pm »
I have a fresh Linux Mint 22.10 VM.
There is running Firbird 5 since several minutes (at least I hope so).
What I cannot bring to work: Flamerobin.
There is chaos in versions and links and operating systems.

I tried the "Aplha 2", which seems to have translated to a 0.9.13, which cannot be installed, because it wants any widget which is depreciated on Ubunto.

Can anybody recommend me a Flamerobin Link, which will work for me?

It's best to get the source code from https://github.com/mariuz/flamerobin/releases (current version 0.9.14) and build it yourself. Needed packages for linux and build process is provided in BUILD.txt file.
FPC 3.2.2
Lazarus 4
Debian x86_64, arm

Thanks, I did.

The other threads says, Flamerobin works with Firebird 5, which is installed already.

But how to?
I read
"
[100%] Linking CXX executable flamerobin
/usr/bin/ld: -lfbclient kann nicht gefunden werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [CMakeFiles/flamerobin.dir/build.make:2002: flamerobin] Fehler 1
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/Makefile2:111: CMakeFiles/flamerobin.dir/all] Fehler 2
make: *** [Makefile:136: all] Fehler 2

"

Try HeidiSQL - it has now been ported to Lazarus and works on Linux: https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,71037.0.html
Best regards / Pozdrawiam

Years ago, I tried it and was not too happy.
Flamerobin I know since years and would prefer to work on with it, because I know its limits already.

To my mind there is a problem with my Firebird 5 installation. I was suspisious, how it can be that easy. It was the first software I installed under Linux in my life. Probably there are paths, which I shall write anywhere or files to copy or libraries to link. Unfortunately I have no idea.  :'(

It says: "Note: please try our new .deb installer and report any bug"

So... just try the .deb file at https://github.com/mariuz/flamerobin/releases
(click assets to see the downloads)

Thank you for your reply, - but pls slowly for dummies.

I clicked your link and (as a dumb window user until last week), I cannot find anything to download.

Clueless I clicked the tab saying "code" and downloaded a zip file. This I unpacked within my Linux VM and could not find a deb-file. My search could not find it neither. This may not mean too much, perhaps we both searched wrongly.

Like I already said... you can click "Assets" to see all the downloads.

At the right you see Releases. Click that.
You didn't follow MY link: https://github.com/mariuz/flamerobin/releases
Then you get into that page directly.
