[SOLVED] Cannot install on Linux Mint
« on: May 12, 2025, 08:35:06 pm »
I decided to clean the mess and reinstall Lazarus.
I uninstalled fpc* and lazarus*.
Now I cannot install.  %)
I downloaded all files from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lazarus/files/Lazarus%20Linux%20amd64%20DEB/Lazarus%204.0/

I tried to install fpc-laz_3.2.2-210709_amd64.deb but I get:

Quote
dpkg: regarding .../fpc-laz_3.2.2-210709_amd64.deb containing fpc-laz:
 fpc-laz   fp-compiler
  fp-compiler:amd64 ( 3.2.2+dfsg-9ubuntu1)    .
  fp-compiler-3.2.2:amd64  fp-compiler     .

dpkg: error processing archive /home/owner//Lazarus/fpc-laz_3.2.2-210709_amd64.deb (--install):
   -     fpc-laz

I have sufficient disk space.
Any ideas how to fix?

Also, for some reason SourceForge offers me to install *darwin*, I think this is for MacOS  :o

EDIT: I removed fp-* and then I was able to install.

I tried to install Lazarus 4.0 on Linux Mint (22.1 Xia). It was successful (almost).

The only problem is when I try to rebuild IDE I get a "Write error":
Unable to write "/usr/share/lazarus/4.0.0/ide/lazarus.res".

If the error is ignored or aborted compilation goes properly.

The minor issue is that error message box has wrongly localized captions of buttons when  IDE is set to English [en] while default system language is my local language. I know that this is corrected in trunk at least for win.

Did you try if running Lazarus with sudo makes any difference?
About the MessageBox, you can never know how it will look like in a different OS, but generally it is unlocalisable.
I use mostly QuestionDlg.

...

Following Thaddy's script (elevating group rights) made Lazarus 4.0 IDE unusable. Removed previous installation, then installed a new one as described in "README.md". It works (an error of recompiling IDE persists anyway). Normal usage does not show problems at first sight.

The difference from previous installation may come from system updating (it is quite new version Linux Mint Mate 22.1 Xia and a number of daily updates is quite high).

About the MessageBox ...

It seems to me that IDE uses its own message box and it allows to control how it is localized.
In trunk it follows IDE setting (localized to a chosen language which may be not that in OS).
