DBEdit and Puffer - what to change?

A DBedit gives me this error message on attempting to fill in some digits.
"Dataset buffer is too small (4) to receive the data from Field KAUFPREIS_SUMME (8)."

What is wrong?
I do not understand anything of Buffers, I only see the default "double puffered" as set.
