I've settled on my game tiles for this version. Shown in the photo is the map editor with a map in construction. The game now has spells for the "Wizard" and various characters to battle. Right now I have the hero gathering points by fighting the characters. The hero finds powerups, health and more spells throughout the map. There are teleportation tiles that transfer the hero to other teleports. In the game itself is fog of war. I'll post a video of the game play later on.
I'm using 3 arrays that are 50x50, the first has the floor, walls, water and teleport tiles, the second contains the placement of the spells , health and powerups and the third has the character info. All three are edited and saved by the map editor. During the game the spells and character arrays are modified by game play. I have animation for the Wizard movement, teleportation and battles between the Wizard and the characters. All of the sprites used are 32x32 pixels.
I have to decide on a win scenario. I'm thinking about setting up a particular square that the Wizard has to reach and all characters have to be defeated in the process. I'm also thinking about adding doors that can be opened with keys that have to be gathered.
I'm happy with this rudimentary game engine I've created. I can use this to create other 2d games.
