Docked Form Editor, regression in trunk Lazarus?
« on: March 05, 2025, 12:12:29 am »
In the latest Lazarus trunk, when rightclicking any components (or a form), the usual options doesnt come up, instead the dialog for docked forms shows.

A week or so older version does not have this behaviour.

There is also another difference, the latest trunk is compiled with the trunk version of fpc. The earlier trunk is compiled with fpc 3.2.2

I'm using Ubuntu and GTK2.

Just docked-form editor? Or docked-form editor + Anchordock?

In other words, could Anchordock add to the behaviour?

Also X-server or wayland?
(I hear wayland causes all sort of issues / but don't know any details)

One or several source editors (not tabs in one source-editor, but several groups of tabs with editors "clone to other editor")?

I tried on Fedora 38 / gtk2 with 9f481306735da6cb4b1e589801b57de261f256a1
- with only docked form edit
- with both: docked form edit, and anchor dock

I get both times the normal menu with "Create default event" as first entry.

Btw, the commit from your screen: 03c88705 => 31st January 2025

However, there may not have been any relevant commits after that. So probably not an issue of updating.

There was a commit 2 days before: 9b4c81b56ba012d4a3a146fe14a1fd03d41979f0
So if you go back before that for testing ... That would be 54e532cdbee52e553c5ef16be438570b6617a2dd or earlier.

What exactly is in the menu that you get to see?
Is that a menu from Lazarus, or one by your Windowmanager?

This happens only when "Show docked form editor" is enabled, check picture of dialog settings.

Also a screenshot of my setup. Uses full anchordocking, plus docked form editor.

Edit: I noticed that it is impossible to take a screenshot of the "docking dialog". This is the one I get to see. (the one where you choose to show captions or not). Pressing printscreen or any other combination, nothing happens as long as the docking dialog is showing.

Edit again: Right now KWin crashed when fiddling with these settings. (KWin is a window manager of Kubuntu) I think i get a feeling the OS is involved. But this still doesnt happen with the earlier trunk or the release.

I am still not sure which menu you mean. I don't know a menu that has "caption" in it. Is it the menu in the screenshot that I attached? (the menu belonging to anchordocking?

If not, how would you invoke the menu normally? Where would you right click, if you actually wanted to get it?

I tested on Manjaro now too (KDE, wayland). I still get the normal menu with "Create default event" on top.

The picture you attached shows what I see. it says Show headers, not Show Caption. I remembered wrong.

Now I installed latest trunk on a fresh Kubuntu in a virtualbox. No problem at all there. Will reinstall laz trunk on the real system when I have more time. if that solves it, I'm still not sure what caused the problem. But as you can see from one of the attachments I have rearranged quite a lot of laz windows. Could be that.

But as you can see from one of the attachments I have rearranged quite a lot of laz windows.

Judging by the description, it looks like #35242. If your Source Editor was docked as a tab with another window (not next to it, but as a tab), then instead of the usual context menu, the docked window menu may appear.

However, on Windows, the wrong context menu appears only when clicking outside the form (empty space around) and in the "Code/Form/Anchors" tabs. Maybe there is a feature in gtk2? Or another problem...

You are right. Undocking all other windows from the Source Editor makes the usual menu show up again when rightclicking components.
