Can't Install Anything

I am dead in the water and need some guidance.  I have been using Lazarus on OSX for years.  I struggled when I got my M1 a few years but did get it working.  I installed 4.0RC1 and had it all running.  I tried to use RC2 and now I can't get anything working again.  I have cleaned all versions of Lazarus and FPC from the machine.  I have tried the last version of 3.x, 4.0 RC1 and RC2 and they all do the same thing.  I even built RC2 locally and the same problem, when I try to launch it I get the

"lazarus.app" is damaged and can't be opened.  You should move it to the Trash.

Dialog. 

Does anyone have any thoughts.

THANK YOU.... that was a struggle.  I can now run 3.8, 4.0 RC1 but RC2 crashes on start....  It shows the dialog to selected where compilers and such are then when you launch Lazarus it immediately crashes...  I can use 4.0 RC1 though so I am now not dead in the water, just doggy paddling....

Well, Jim, great you can use RC1 but what ever the problem in RC2 is, its likely to be there when 4.0 is released. So, 'we' better find out what it is. And, sorry, but by 'we' I mean you !

Its unlikely that the Lazarus devs have a M1 that triggers your problem, or, even an M1.

So, easy one first, a startup log so they can see what the problem is ?  Messy on the Mac but possible.  I think, only think, you should be able to capture a log like this -

Now, you will need to replace "PATH" with a proper path to your lazarus, that will depend on how you installed it. If you built it yourself, from source (thats likely and good!) then you could probably cd to that dir and use something like -

Getting that debug info in will greatly increase your chances of getting a working v4.0 !

Hmm, my Mac is intel based and Monteray. A month or so ago, I tried to replicate "a" reported problem with RC2 but failed to do so. So, its clearly ARM specific and probably OS specific. And XCode version specific.

That means some real debugging might be needed. I am about to head off on something of a nightmare of a road trip, will be out of touch for a day or so, pleanty of other people here will be able to help you to build a debug version of lazarus and run that, or, even, in an extream case, run the new lazarus, under a debugger, probably the one in another, working, IDE.

But first, try and build a Lazarus with all the debugging turned on, run it like the one you just did.

Sorry, cannot look up the command line switches to build a debug version right now ...

Now, step by step, I suggest -

You have a working Lazarus 4.0RC1 ?   And another directory containing a 4.0RC2 source tree ?  I suggest you blow away that RC2 directory and create a new clean one. And make a lazarus.cfg file in there that points to a config dir. It can be empty or non-existing as long as you can write there.

Now, in that RC2 directory (and I know you have done this before) run -

Code: Pascal  [Select][+][-]

1. $> make clean bigide

That will build a lazarus binary that we know does not run. Debugging is turned on by default on Linux (to my surprise), I guess so on MacOS.

Now, go off and start your working RC1 install, and when it asks you to open project, point to the <your_RC2_Tree>/ide/lazarus.lpi - it should open up that RC2 project. Now, do NOT try and build that project, just run it, its already been build and, apparently cannot be build in the IDE.

It will (we assume) crash, lets find where ! I'm hoping that is all we need.

I dunno mac but to me that looks like a gatekeeper related issue ? e.g. macos does not trust the application (manifest related ?) and therefor refuses to execute it.

PS: I don't know if this is able to help you with that in case you have no idea. For sure, I have no idea.
