Why  you cannot use polish characters ą ć ń ł ó ę ś ź ż.
Im use Lazarus ver. 3.8 and ver. 3.4

You can type Polish characters, only some have keyboard shortcuts assigned to them, which you must disable: Tools > Options > Key Mappings, i.e. Ctrl + Alt + S, Ctrl + Alt + L
