In your IDE, when you drop down one of the "Color" properties in the object inspector, you see many color boxes and the names of the colors in the boxes. The color boxes are drawn in the same way directly on the canvas of the combobox. Do they match? I mean: Is the box next to clRed really red, or is it blue? I'd be surprised if this were correct on your system.

Please see reply #15 in this thread which includes a screenshot. All applications are drawn correctly apart from Lazarus and anything that I create with it.

I reinstalled Debian from scratch and the colours are now fine. No idea what the issue was although it would have been interesting to know. Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
