Online tutor using remote desktop

Handoko:
Hello all.
Do you think it is a good or bad idea, providing online tutor using remote desktop software. Have anyone ever done it?

Sometimes, someone asks my help regarding Lazarus programming. It will be very helpful if I can set a remote desktop for them. Which software would you recommend?

Weiss:
It would probably make sense for tutoring, why don't you just try it. At work our admins use Windows desktop remote connection. I think this is included in windows. It gives connected party a full control, we sometimes fight for a mouse swing, I roll it one way while admin is trying to roll it the other way. But, at work this is a given, we do not own the PC and intervention is easily accepted. Not sure how will it work with private parties. Might look alarming.

There was a bug for somebody using a Radeon graphic card.
It is a old bug ( 6 years ago ) and, because it does not appear on other cards, nobody was able to fix it.
Until last month with the help of the (super WOW) RustDesk  https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/releases/tag/1.3.1
I was able to connect to the machine with the problematic Radeon card and so we have detected the problem, live and fix it.
Sincerely that RustDesk app (that I did not know, it is the user that proposed to use it) is very impressive and I would recommend to try it.

I think it's a good way of answering _specific_ questions a programming student may have.

For general knowledge, I would point the person to articles and/or tutorials on the net.  IOW, if the person doesn't already have some basic knowledge you'll spend a fair amount of time explaining things that are already well explained in articles and/or videos found on the net.  IMO, that would _not_ be a good use of your time.

HTH.
