mxMarkEdit, a new visual Markdown editor
« on: December 05, 2024, 06:08:17 pm »
Hi all,

I'd like to present mxMarkEdit, a new free software for Mac written in Lazarus to edit documents, tasks and simple databases in Markdown format. Its main features are the visual formatting of the text for some markers (headings, italics, bold, bold italics, code, quotes) and a list of all the headings and the todo items, which allows both to select one of them in the text and to show which of them the cursor is under to. From version 1.0.6, the todo items typed in the document are summarised in a form in which they may be sorted, and the expired ones are printed in red. At the bottom of the text, there is an Excel-like grid hidden by default with many features to manage simple data collections related to the text itself. The app may easily convert the document in use with Pandoc in many formats.

From the version 1.1.2, the app is notarized by Apple.

For more information, four screenshots, a simple user manual, the source code and a package of the app already compiled for Arm processors (and not notarized), see https://github.com/maxnd/mxMarkEdit.

It's available also a video on YouTube with a conversation 20 minutes long in English generated by Google NotebookLM in January 2025 from the Readme document of the app. The video is in https://youtu.be/DhZMkhk7plo.

I hope it can be useful to somebody. :)

Massimo

Hi,

I went to look at the video and it is no longer available?!?

One question... how come you have unit1.pas through to unit9.pas rather than using some more meaningful name? Genuine question.

Sorry, I removed the videos because no one watched them. :(

As the unit names, I open the various forms, which have meaningful names, so I don't give the units a real name.

@maxnd

Great work. Thanks for your efforts. Are you the same guy that wrote the note-taking software, MyNoteX? I used on Linux some years ago.

Yes, I am.

Is it still being developed? Or is mxMarkEdit its successor (not directly)?

No, MyNotex it's not developed any more. mxMarkEdit is far more than its successor, just for Mac.

<snip>... written in Lazarus ...
It shouldn't be a surprise that Pascal loses traction in the programming space when it is not given due credit.  I really doubt there are programs "written in Lazarus" but, they might have been developed using the Lazarus IDE (which facilitates the use of Free Pascal.)

FPC v3.2.2 and Lazarus v4.0rc3 on Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

You are right. I've changed the Readme file and the manuals accordingly.
