Free Pascal on Linux on Intel Core i5 cpu
« on: November 23, 2024, 05:43:44 pm »
Can Free Pascal be successfully run in a Linux distribution on Dell Intel Core i5-7200 U CPU? Linux Lite is already installed and running well.

When using Lazarus does the free pascal have to be downloaded and installed first or is it part of the Lazarus package?  How do you know if you have the needed GNU files for Pascal?

I can't see any reason why not. Isn't FPC listed in their packagelist ? if not then it is possible to f.e. retrieve from sourceforge (select you choice of platform/OS).
I do not have to remember anything anymore thanks to total-recall.

I never have any issue running Lazarus/FPC on Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mate starting on release version 8.04 to 24.04 on Intel Core2 Quad 6600, G2020, Core i3 gen4, Core i3 gen6. In the past there were some installation issues but that were long time ago.

I never tried running Lazarus/FPC on Linux on a core i5 computer, but I believe it should be fine too.

Runs fine even on an atom, pentium, i3 or whatever. I bet it even possible to run it it on a dish-washer or micro-wave  :)

The main issue probably would be memory and/or storage related. FPC runs on about everything but Lazarus requires a bit more muscle (but only a bit).

Hi
I'm having very good results with 'FpcUpDeluxe' on my PCLinuxOS'es, different processors.
I especially like, that it installs in my /home/me/... dir, so it's not write-protected...
Regards Benny
If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)
PCLinuxOS(rolling release) 64bit -> KDE5 -> FPC 3.2.2 -> Lazarus 2.2.6 up until Jan 2024 from then on it's: KDE5/QT5 -> FPC 3.3.1 -> Lazarus 3.0
