Just to be clear, I think the problem encountered on the wiki is separate from the certain pages of documentation provided directly through lazarus-ccr.sourceforge.net.

While the latter indeed seem to be universally unavailable, the wiki instead seems to block specific users who try to create an account, on the erroneous assumption that they are bots.

Maybe they should put in anti-bot checks, then. It's not exactly rocket science  >:D

Carl, not a bot, last time I checked, but still unable to access the wiki...

Well, there actually is an anti-bot check in the sign up form, in the shape of a question that is supposedly hard to answer for a bot. And I thought I had answered correctly, but apparently not.

That said, I stumbled across a list of wiki admins, so if we don't get any feedback here, I guess that opens up another possible avenue to ask for help.

It's been a while since I signed up. I'd forgotten completely! However, this is another example, following the recent blockages with the forum, of a "technical" solution being employed which hits the innocent. Surely a more considered response could be found 🙏🏽

All of these are down for me (from https://wiki.freepascal.org/Free_Pascal#Documentation )

http://lazarus-ccr.sourceforge.net/fpcdoc/user/user.html User's guide
...

Those files are all located at https://www.freepascal.org/docs.html.

The Lazarus CCR site at https://lazarus-ccr.sourceforge.io/docs/index.html hosts only LCL, LazUtils, and mirrors of the RTL, and FCL references.

I think the ones you listed may have been there at one point, but were not restored after SourceForge nuked the CCR docs site for no reason.

Then https://wiki.freepascal.org/Free_Pascal#Documentation should be updated to not point to dead links?

Good suggestion... but I don't maintain wiki pages.

I tested this too
I went to wiki and searched and went to a page. It seems to work ok.  But when I came back later it looked similar to Carl’s screen shot with site can’t be reached. So maybe the problem is intermittent.

Maybe, but there was more spam over the weekend which might have spurred the admins to block a range again... knowing precisely /when/ you had the problem might be useful.

Perhaps we should give up on the entire forum+wiki idea and go back to using things like IRC...

Did you ever use it ?

Not in the context of Pascal, that was merely a crude attempt at getting a rise out of you to see whether you'd blacklisted me. I'm sorry for having to do it, but I couldn't very well ask directly.

Crude, but apparently effective :-)

I've used it in other contexts, and found it unusable if there were multiple simultaneous discussion threads. I've already discussed the technical underpinnings of that in relation to various protocols and related clients, and see no benefit to the community in repeating myself.

While the latter indeed seem to be universally unavailable, the wiki instead seems to block specific users who try to create an account, on the erroneous assumption that they are bots.
The wiki is currently being actively spammed.
Almost al new users are spammers or spambots.
So ATM we just block any suspicious username that resembles how these spammers create their usernames.
See the block log.

Sorry for that.

As I suspected - thank you for the feedback.

So, what would I have to do if I wanted to contribute to the wiki? Is the account I tried to create usable; or would I have to try again, with a heads-up to you and other admins so that I don't get blocked?

Or is any active participation off the table while the spam attack is ongoing?

If you don't succeed in creating a wiki account, you could as Jonas.
