If you are so concerned why did you leave poor Etienne_L waiting for 2 days without helping him??
Did it ever occur to you that a new forum user might not enjoy being ignored for days after asking for help?

I actually helped Etienne_L get some help by drawing attention to this thread. I don’t know if Etienne_L will ever read this. Maybe he left after being ignored by people who could help for two days. Did you ever think of that?

That’s right lots of tips and suggestions after I lured markml into the thread after 2 days and others followed. The first posts on thread were not from someone who is familiar with tmemo. In any case if the op has not abandoned thread it’s time for him to thank everyone who helped and mark it solved since he doesn’t  seem to have any questions. To do anything else would be rude and ungrateful to the people who tried to help. Right?

I suggest not jumping to that sort of conclusion prematurely, since he might merely be waiting for an answer he understands.

The diff viewer in double commander (which is written in laz/fpc) does it as well (I haven't looked at its code yet) but those are probably not tmemo's.

I knew that someone would probably respond to the “ the original poster who has abandoned thread” bit because many people have dark fantasies about what my intentions are.

I saw the thread and I thought wow that’s an interesting idea and bookmarked it because I wanted to know what the solution is. After a day nobody had answered it and I thought how sad , some poor newbie needs help and is being ignored. So I started asking around in chat if anyone knew how to do it and couldn’t find any straight forward solutions. Then I mentioned that the thread Was being ignored to wizzwizz who tried to bump it by posting but still it was ignored.
I then welcomed op to forums and asked to see the code he had so far. I was ignored. Then I edited my post with some hints and was still ignored. Then I deleted my post in disgust realizing that I had been played. Then I posted again later because wizzwizz was giving non lcl controls solutions.

It would be nice if people didn’t make threads and abandon them wouldn’t it? This seems to happen fairly often.
At least it led to an interesting discussion about tmemo.

I, for one, do not have dark fantasies about your intentions. Like many, I suspect, I have better, more constructive things to do with my time!

Allowing that there are users in countries that shall not be named, do you really think there aren't already workarounds in place?

If the project has lost good people it's because you're messing things up by thinking you can solve problems of this type without communicating effectively with the core team.

Do you think that I haven’t had a discussion with martin_fr About this very serious problem already ?
He said that someone has to volunteer to do the workaround and be reliable. Even if someone does submit bugs and patches on the behalf of others the excluded person might not be given credit for their work and that’s not fair.

It’s not exactly clear why the project can’t be moved to another website that doesn’t ban developers from certain countries. He mentioned it being a lot of work to move it and I really don’t know what other hosting options are available. There is not enough manpower to maintain a website themselves.

I just think it’s ironic that some not so enlightened people have come up with a mythology Casting me as some sort of evil monster  that eats newbies alive whilst pascal developers that we need are literally being banned from gitlab and giving up on contributing !!

If anyone wishes to actually talk to the developer who got banned I can introduce you. {you don’t even need an account, it’s super duper easy to get to where he is } I’ll also add that this fellow possesses an extraordinary amount of patience and was willing to jump through hoops and put in extra effort to try to help project. Not many people are willing to do that. Does anyone care enough to actually go talk to him? Anyone?

That seems to be doing the trick.

OK: so that's using SynEdits, setting a handler for OnStatusChange, and setting the TopLine property. Certainly does work (at least to the extent given in OP's question), and I for one would have no problem using a synedit rather than a memo for this sort of thing.
