[SOLVED] Possible Bug in Menu Editor
« on: September 20, 2024, 04:24:59 pm »
I tried to change the caption on a menu item by right-clicking on the menu item then selecting Edit Caption, using the Menu Editor  This opens up a text-box with the caption text in it BUT when I try to change it, sends me straight back into the IDE editor screen. I have tried multiple times, same result. Screenshot attached.

This function was removed in Laz/main and Laz/fixes (i.e. it will be removed also in Laz 3.6).

I wonder why they decided to remove it? It is a useful thing to have ...

Maybe because it was related with the inplace-editor which was making trouble (https://gitlab.com/freepascal.org/lazarus/lazarus/-/issues/41022).

In the present way of operation of the menu editor, you add the first menu item, select its Caption, then add the other menu items, and the focus stays at the Caption property in the Object Inspector, i.e. after adding a new item you can immediately type its Caption. Which is much more comfortable than opening the context menu and selecting "Edit Caption". The only thing to remember is that the Caption property must be selected first.
