There currently doesn't seem to be a way of making, say, small paypal donations towards this admirable project?

Thanks. May I suggest it is made a little more prominent on the homepage? When I looked recently, I didn't come across it quickly.

In my opinion, it is well visible. You can enter through the foundation's website (1) [which is how I acquired the above link] or directly from the page that takes you to PayPal (2) - see image

OK. My bad perhaps. I came across 'Contribute money' where everything is crossed out and thought maybe donations had been discontinued. Should have been more attentive.

Agreeing with ynys.  A more visible solicitation for donations once or twice a year, perhaps here and on the home page, would not be troublesome.  Our community ought to at least buy somebody like Michaël Van Canneyt a beer once in a while :)

Just one idea: accept cryptocurrencies like BTC, USDT, and USDC. This way anyone can see the donations received.

BTW: The foundation looks not actual because
https://foundation.freepascal.org/news/acountancy
the last acountancy is from 2019 . And the information is very poor in the document.

And about the roadmap was a discussion here in the forum https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,62337.30.html

One remark of PascalDragon in the Thread:
Quote
The foundation wasn't a decision of the team as whole, but of a single member plus the editor from the Blaise Pascal magazine.
my 2 cents

In either case, the money donated will be used to pay the rent of the lazarus server (main page, this forum and lazarus mailing list)

Would there be any interest in creating a more-formal Lazarus Foundation?  In addition to regular operating expenses, I do think it would be nice if there was a way for the community to say "thank you" to the people that contribute so much to the Lazarus/FPC project (documenter Michaël Van Canneyt being a ready-to-hand name, and there are certainly others deserve more recognition than they get, like those associated with maintaining the OPM and fpcupdeluxe to cite just two examples (and they too, I suspect,  have some operating expenses)).

I suppose there would be some expense to set up such a foundation (assuming the existing foundation hasn't been formalized already as suggested by af0815?)  if so and if there is any interest in doing that, I'd be willing to pitch in to cover the costs of setting up the formalities.  Let me know. (Understand it would be a burden on people like Marc to keep up the paperwork for such a thing).
