Lazreport on Delphi 12
« on: June 18, 2024, 12:50:14 pm »
Hi to all,

Is there a Delphi version of Lazreport that can be used to use the same reports from Lazarus under Delphi CE or Professional?

I use both compilers and want to use as much of Lazarus as possible in Delphi. My employer wants to switch from Lazarus to Delphi 12, but I want to stay on Lazarus for personal use.

If Lazreport is not possible with Delphi, is there an alternative? (Delphi = Windows; Lazarus = Windows + Linux)

Thanks in advance.

Lazreport is only for Lazarus. It is based on FreeReport (the free version of FastReport): https://github.com/FastReports/FreeReport .
FreeReport is no longer developed and I don't know if it can be installed on current versions of Delphi. You can use FastReport Embarcadero RAD Edition (or other paid versions) on current Delphi versions: https://www.fast-report.com/fastreport-embarcadero-edition/
Since Lazreport is developed independently then the report files generated by it will not be read correctly with either FreeReport or FastReport.

If your employer wants to switch to Delphi 12, then ask him to also provide a report generator (for $$$).

If the employer is 'wise' enough to determine in what tool you need to program, he should also be wise enough to provide you with everything you need for that tool. If he doesn't, then he shouldn't make that decision.

Money is not the question.

The issue is that he can find Delphi Programmer but no Lazarus Programmer and he is running out of time so he switches to Delphi. I am planning to leave the company and will stay on Lazarus. His idea is that I can help him in some cases as external consultant.

So he need something where reports can be done in Lazarus and Delphi and where we can share the report templates.

The other items like Database is easy to manage and available in "both worlds".

if money is not a problem then use the paid version of FastReport - it works with both Delphi and Lazarus, so there will be no problem with report compatibility.
