Indylaz 10.5.8 won't install
« on: August 04, 2024, 10:50:25 am »
Hi everyone,
I've been using Lazarus for many years now and am fairly confident with it. I have installed the LNet package with no problems and am able to use it. That being said, I am experiencing a problem when I try to install Indy. I have downloaded 10.5.8 and when I try to install the Indylaz.lpk, located in the \Indy-master\Builder\Package Generator\LazTemplates folder of the extracted .zip archive, I get the following error:

idwinsock2.pas(4533,0) Error: Unexpected end of file

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I have obviously managed to get earlier versions installed in the past as I have recently come across a program I wrote many years ago that uses Indy, hence why I am trying to install it now.
Many thanks.

First of all, it's a very old version of Indy, it's already 10 years old.
Second, you didn't specify what version of Lazarus you are using.

If you have Lazarus version 1.8 or later, use Online Package Manager: https://wiki.freepascal.org/Online_Package_Manager - with its help you will install one of the latest versions of the Indy package very easily and without problems.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. Oops, my bad  :P  I'm using Lazarus 3.2, FPC 3.2.2.

Yeah I know it's old but I just want to be able to get the old stuff that I wrote years ago working so I can then find an alternate method, I may give Synapse a go.
Thanks you for the suggestion, I'll give it a shot and see how I get on.

I think that after installing the new version of Indy, you should have no problems compiling projects that use an older version of this component. Certainly with the transfer to Synapse you will have much more work.

So here's the interesting thing. Tried the Online Package Manager and got the same error.
Decided to uninstall & reinstall Lazarus, left the config files in place......got the same error.
Uninstalled & reinstalled again but this time completely clean, all config files and traces of the previous installation wiped.......Bingo!! It worked!!

It looks like the error was caused by a bad config somewhere, no idea where but I'm just happy it's working.

Thank you for all your help Paweld, you're a superstar!!!

it might be worth looking into fpcupdeluxe, because this installation method of Lazarus allows you to install multiple independent instances (also different versions and combinations) without Lazarus digging into the Operating system. Each Instance uses it's own directory.
Lazarus stable, Win32/64

Note that OPM is currently a few months behind from the latest Indy release on GitHub.  I just now reached out to GetMem to update OPM, so it should get the latest Indy soon.
