Cool, hopefully a borderless windowed mode is possible instead of exclusive fullscreen. Easier to Tab in/out to/from and no annoying monitor mode switching and turning black for a second or two.
Often games can be played in a floating window (800x600 for example). I had no idea the art gets rendered for the screen. Sounds like supporting resolution switching might be a hassle. I wouldn't worry about it.
Yes it would be nice to have the possibility to choose the size of the game window between:
- full screen (with black border if the monitor aspect ratio isn't equal to 4:3)
- or maximized window (with black border if the monitor aspect ratio isn't equal to 4:3)
- or the resolution of a floating window 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768,... (without black border)
I don't know if all widget set support all these window modes, in particular the full-screen mode. To avoid problems, it's preferable to add a launcher where the player can choose his prefered mode, then, start the game. If the selected mode fails for any reason, player can restart the launcher and select another one.
I'll put it on my to-do list.
Not sure. It happens in the caves, I used cheats to be able to get this far and for example in the 4th level, failing and then restarting can lead to the "Don't be spotted" screen getting stuck with no progress possible whatsoever.
I have a gamepad plugged in that I don't use and I tend to press many buttons to try to skip this help screen. I think that might be it, mashing AWSD, arrow keys and space bar immediately after pressing "Start", while it still fades out.
Mashing buttons to make the game start logos disappear quicker seems to also make this bug appear more likely.
It happens with other minigames too.
thanks to your precise explanations I was able to reproduce the bug by holding down a key on the keyboard during a screen change.
There was a bug in the keyboard management in the game engine. It's now fixed. Thank you !!
EDIT: the fix will be effective in the next release.
- Can’t display controls from main menu, have either to restart or go to main menu settings
Not sure to understand. Controls can be changed in main menu/options.
My bad, I meant the pause menu.
You're right, it would be nice to have the possibility to redefine the controls from the pause menu.
Another thing in my to-do list!
EDIT: done. It will be effective in the next release.
Perhaps you might want to embrace the ingame cheats, for example by adding a [cheat] entry in pause menus that shows input text/clears it on pressing return and info on what a cheat did when successful.
I remember playing the same game on SNES for more than a month or two (Donkey Kong Country).
My game isn't that difficult. Adding the cheat directly into the game will encourage people to use it.
If people like the game, they will continue to play, even if it takes several days to get through a level.
If they don't like the game, it's natural to abandon it.
I prefer to keep the cheat codes separate from the game itself. Perseverance is a good thing!
I think the very last lines the dino and LRRH exchange are unstranslated, unless it's some joke/reference.
I had noticed this oversight. The translation has been added.
Thank you for your precise analysis and contribution!
