The reason for the change was to unify the behaviour of the different run methods => if the user did not specify anything, then it should always be the same.

I guess few people do "run without debugging", so that behaviour was rarely/never inspected.

I do use "Run without debugging" some times .

You are right. That worked in 2.2.n.
But I tested against the main-branch as it was before my change. And there the change had already been made.

So I don't actually know why that change had been made (to "run without debug"). I am currently trying to find out.

This has annoyed me for awhile, but been too busy to follow it up.

Has the meaning (or functionality) of the IDE Tools->Options->CodeTools "Jump Directly to Method Body" changed in Laz_3 ?

It used to be (if above is set) that if you hovered the mouse over a method call, clicked the hyper link in the help hint that popped up, you would jump straight to the implementation of that method. Almost always what you want. Now, with that option set or not, we jump to the declaration and have to do a second set of keys, requiring use of both hands, Ctlr-Shift-DownArrow to get to the method.

Is there another way to set the obvious desired behavior ?  Or another way to achieve a direct jump from a call to the implementation of that call ?

This change, if change it is, makes moving around source code a lot slower !

Or even faster, don't move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse. Use the key-shortcut Alt-Up
And if you don't even want to move your fingers to the cursor keys, assign it to something else.

Also, if you use the mouse, you can assign the function to another button, and execute it without the need of holding any ctrl or other key.

Btw, I just tried with 2.2.6 the link in the hint is not affected by that setting, not in 2.2.6 either.

As Martin_fr mentioned, there is also possible to configure mouse. If you don't use middle button, you can go to Options/Editor/Mouse, and there for middle button select 'Jumps to implementation' and use it without keyboard.

What should I do if I would like to have both jumps available? For example, I would like to jump to the declaration using Alt+Up (I have it currently set) and jump to the routine body using Alt+Down. I can't find the option to set the shortcut to jump to the routine body, if the caret is inside the name of the routine call. However, the Ctrl+LMB should always jump to the declaration.

Yep, the Find declaration option is broken in Lazarus 3.0, I managed to confirm this. If jumping directly to the routine body is disabled, the Find declaration option jumps to the declaration only if it is in another file. If it is in the same, then the jump goes to the routine implementation, which is a bug.

sorry to bother again but i can't make work fine lazarus 3 on debian 12 x86.
fresh install of debian 32bits with xfce desktop on vm, install latest updates
download fpcupdeluxe like always, install all the pre-requisites and when try to install it gives me an error and stop.
tried severaltimes with/o gitlab, fpc stable, fpc 3.2.2, lazarus stable, lazarus fixes and no-go
then proceed to download packages from the page (the two fpc and the lazarus dpkg), installed first fpc, and then fpc-src and then lazarus.
then fired lazarus and started fine, then directly go to packages and try to add a few (lazreport, jumptoimplementation, messagecomposer) it stops with an error i post below.
i've had problems with lazarus and linux 32 bits before but i thinked it was from the antix linux i was using so i decide to do a fresh start with a debian.
