Strings too long in Gtk

Hi,

I would like to update some Lazarus french translations not because of translation itself but because string length. It appears most translations have been tested on Win 32 and they look fine :

However on Gnome with Gtk1 or Gtk2 with default fonts it looks like this in many many windows with overlapping or truncated strings:

I want to truncate some translations strings to avoid this. As I read here, I have to checkout po files from HEAD  and post them here (as diff ?) or can I request an account just to do that?
