I actually don't fully understand the need for lazarus to support GTK2. What I mean is that Lazarus itself or a Lazarus Application compiled in GTK1 and run under Gnome/GTK2 (in my case GTK+ 2.6.4, GTK naming convention is screwey) will show with the GTK2 style. Its only under KDE that I see a GTK1 style. So the advantage of GTK2 compilation would seem to be only if you are running KDE, otherwise your app will look like whatever your Gnome style is. Am I missing something here ?

Well, you could be missing the fact that KDE (like it or not) is the largest desktop platform on linux, so the limitation you speak of is very visible. The way liunx is going, having apps look good under KDE will become almost vital.

Mwah, some widget got replaced/improved, some constants got renamed, some functions are gone, others are renamed, some signal results have to be inversed, etc.
Further, there is no difference :(

Well, I don't know if it's just a KDE problem, but Lazarus GTK apps look terrible on my SuSE system. It's the fonts in particular - they're not anti-aliased and they look appallingly crude and old-fashioned.  Considering that you can progam cross-platform with wxWidgets in wxPython and get  a wonderful-looking GTK2 app, Lazarus really looks like the poor relation. I think Lazarus must move to GTK2 as a priority if it is to be a successful cross-platform development tool.

Probably poor choice of wording in my posting on my part.  I actually use and prefer KDE over Gnome. Still,  I don't see any people brining up the fact that GTK2 is mostly needed for KDE use.  I guess it's just too obvious for some people.

Its obvious, I think. Fact is, solid support for KDE and GTK2 are the way to go considering all major distributions make use of them. We want our apps to look nice and not just be functional, right? I think the linux crowd is starting to finally get out of the old "as long as it works" mindset.
