Hidden files under linux

I just found out that the file attributes for  hidden files/folders do not work under linux. I think that we should switch the hidden bit on, if the flename begins with a period (.) .  Should I make an entry in the bugtracker?

I posted a bugreport which also covers this problem as issue #9915, see note 0016211 in this report.
I have proposed a patch also...
