How to make Lazarus look like the one in the Linux Screensho
« on: April 09, 2008, 01:46:10 pm »
Hi,
on this home page are some Screenshots of Lazarus, the first one is from Linux and looks really great.
http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Image:Lazarus_IDE_GTK2.png

If I install Lazarus in Linux it looks awful, sort of the most ugliest software I've got. Rebuilding it using GTK2 improves the look a lot, especially the fonts, but still no comparison to this look.

So what do I have to do to make my Lazarus looking like that?

The version in the screenshots is 0.9.24 (- I think). Under Ubuntu/Debian you can use the Lazarus repository to install it as described here (if you have a previous version uninstall it first) : http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Getting_Lazarus#Getting_Lazarus_from_our_Ubuntu_repository

For other distros see here : http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus#Installing_Lazarus_under_Linux

After it is installed open a terminal and type :
sudo startlazarus
and go to : "Tools -> Configure Build Lazarus" and check "Clean + Build All" and click OK.

If you get an error message saying that libc was not found then you haven't installed :
ftp://ftp.freepascal.org/fpc/dist/i386-linux-2.2.0/deb/fp-units-i386_2.2.0-1_i386.deb

Install it and retry to build the IDE. After it is done, close the IDE and start it as usual from the menu.  Now, it should look like you want.
