why don't we have an update button on lazarus?

i think it woul be better if we just click to see if there's some new release...

New releases are seen so infrequently that you really do not need an update button.

i think that's why we need it... i don't use the svn, so i never will know when there's a new version...

How to do it in Ubuntu based Linux distros is solved in parallel thread 'Updating'.
Probably you are on Windows. If you often visit this forum, here are usually announcement before and after releasing of new versions.

Then the only button you need is a shortcut to this url where new releases are announced: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/board,18.0.html
If you check let's say twice a year, you are never more then a couple of months behind.
