Martin It’s open to interpretation.
Sure you can argue logic and grammar rules all you like but it’s about emotion. How do people thinking of using fpc feel when they come across fpc and worsen in same sentence. You don’t see this because of your preconceptions about why people are here. You want to believe that their intentions are good.

Hi 440bx yes I notice subtle things that other people don’t seem to pick up on some of which I can attribute to my experience in online gaming. There are a lot of accounts here that seem to talk about fpc in a patronizing way as if they are just trying to increase their number of posts. It comes across as sarcastic when someone praises something they don’t even appear to use. I believe his posts praising fpc as well as host “glad to help” to be insincere .

Don’t even get me started on weird ways that Americans misuse English. It drives me nuts how they decided that women can be referred to as guys.

I am pretty sure the above text can be questioned on its use of the English language..... But then, my own writing skills aren't pitch perfect each and every time....

But the more important thing: What are people going to think when they see new members to the community scrutinized, having every word turned over twice or thrice? What will it convey if the old members give the impression that they suspect malice in everything and everyone?

If you asked me, then such behaviour - albeit, not as exaggerated as I painted it - will do far worse for the image people will have of us.

Just my 2 cents.

Like: "C is worse than FPC" ?

Oh, sorry, I put "FPC" and "worse" into one sentence.... SCNR ;)

That's an excellent point.

I pretty much stopped participating in StackOverflow for that reason.
(FPC v3.0.4 and Lazarus 1.8.2) or (FPC v3.2.2 and Lazarus v3.2) on Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

stackoverflow comes up earlier of search results with good coding answers then here almost all the time now for my fpc coding questions

There is an enormous amount of good information there.  That's definitely not a problem.  It's an excellent resource.

The problem there is that there are too many participants, whose skills are figments of their imagination, doling out attitude.  I am challenged when it comes to tolerating mediocrity particularly when delivered with bad attitude.

getting to the bottom of my bucket list is a compliment i have to give to the tremendous fpc programmers that inhabit this space - fpc is truly a magic gift
(and glad it runs on linux os also :)

i started fpc from dos os turbo pascal - and the relative exhilaration feeling from the benefit of the coding richness of fpc was like that of going from microsoft pascal to turbo pascal (the turbo pascal terminate and stay resident coding blew my away)

if anyone did that route they know what i mean

So you got it?

I don't want to judge, but my judgement tell me you have good intention. The problem is, bad guys can use others' good intention to do damage. If you believe there are bad guys there and here ...  If you're not wise, 'they' can use your good intention to cause damage to Pascal community.

If you think/found any user here is a troll or trying doing bad thing to the community, you should report to moderator. And let they do the job, they have access to the user information. Moderators know how to handle this things better than us.

Thank you moderators for keeping this forum relatively low in spams and trolls.

Handoko you are unusually insightful. This is exactly what is happening and has been happening for a long time. Trolls pretending to be new people interested in using fpc.

Unfortunately moderators don’t always moderate when they should.
Handoko I did request moderation for this personal attack and no moderation was given

Your obsession is making you a whack job.
Apparently newbie accounts can do whatever they like because “we don’t want to scare new people away by scrutinizing them you know....
Just come here and verbally abuse anyone you like it’s fine.
Ok I get it I’m “the villain”
how about this unmoderated gem that has nothing to do with me? https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,67044.msg515135.html#msg515135

Can anyone tell me why is this statement toxic ?
Quote
Miss Jamie does that instead of showing some proof.

If you can’t tell me you don’t know English.

Martin, I assume german is your native language not English. I know it’s not easy to detect certain types of trolling because superficially they resemble polite conversation. For me it’s obvious when someone is a troll because of my extensive experience with trolls. I also look at their posting history or at how people are reacting to their “technical questions“.

I think that trolls sometimes like to build up a rapport with the community they are attacking using flattery. This is why I called out the social influencer earlier. he seemed insincere and patronizing. To me it’s obvious what he is doing to you it’s not.

I am also aware that trolls work in teams. The arrival of the second newbie account spewing hatred after I stopped responding to the LV account was no surprise.

Yes Rvk I know English and it works like this
Good better best
Bad worse worst

No, thats wrong. Good and bad are not relative to anything else. "worst, worse, better, best" are relative to something else.

If you imagine something that is absolutely perfect, any change will make it "worse" relative that perfect state. Anything, except the worst possible, can get worse. The better something is, the more likely a change will make it worse.

But thats not the point really, in this discussion, a relatively new forum member has been attacked for using a pretty normal set of words in a statement that most people see absolutely no harm intended. That is not in our collective interest. Joanna, why not just say "Sorry, I was having a bad day" ?

Dbannon i have a long history of accounts showing up here for the sole purpose of attacking me and then going dormant. If this account turns out not to belong to a troll I will happily apologize. Let’s watch what it does for the next few months shall we?

It’s a hobby of mine to look up what became of obnoxious accounts months  later. Usually they are abandoned.

I have to wonder if some of the accounts were abandoned after a run in with you Joanna ?

I, personally, am confident that FPC/Lazarus is the ideal solution for my needs. My faith is strong, if someone criticizes it, I can either address that criticism or laugh it off. I don't feel so insecure that I need to jump up with a counter attack. Maybe you just need to try and think the same way ? Or, is your faith wavering ?
