I wasn't aware that the topic was that touchy, to the degree that you feel the need to engage in personal attacks.
Hi jacmoe.

There was no any personal attack here. This forum is just like this. Sometimes, people here use words that sound harsh but actually he/she doesn't mean so. Did you notice the winky smiley?

I admit I sometimes notice trolls in this forum, but usually they just popup and gone. Both Akira and Thaddy are old users here (I don't mean the age). Especially I know Thaddy, he contributes a lot in this forum and bugtracker.

Correct. That was no personal attack. Merely an observation: statements should not be based on "alternative facts", a.k.a. "Trump Cards".
I merely explained that if you were aware of the fact that the index now treats all Object Pascal dialects as one entry, you would not be surprised that it reached the top 10 again. It was always there, but well hidden.
That is merely following how TIOBE operates. I asked them to do that for YEARS, correction: IONS.
I was not the only one. They finally did the deed.  O:-)

Because the old situation was "lies, damned lies and statistics". If you didn't look through all entries and added up everything yourself you would have gotten a false impression.

And the freebee also contributed.

If Europe sells their USA bonds the USD will collapse. Europe can affort that given average state debts. The USA can't affort that. Just an advice...

- Object Pascal is more than just Delphi and has always had a far higher cumulative score than previously suggested. (which confuses people like you)

Well, object pascal could of course point to Delphi too, since they actually named the language like that for quite a while.

But IMHO, yes, lies, damn lies and internet statistics.

It's unification, Marco: they call the same beast the same name now. But of course their way of measuring is highly imprecise. Which they admit.

To steal from another subject I helped with today: at least mean and variance is now improved since the population has grown.

IEEE's interactive programming languages rating app says that Delphi is at number 27 overall:

http://spectrum.ieee.org/static/interactive-the-top-programming-languages-2016

I think IEEE rating is probably slightly better than TIOBE, especially since you can configure the view.

For example, in Mobile, Delphi is at 9 !

That surprises me. Must be because of their Firemonkey framework.

Enterprise:
Delphi at 21.

Embedded and Web : it does not register.

If we choose 'Trending', then Delphi is at 25 (27 overall).
And when 'Jobs' is chosen: position 22.

Interesting, isn't it?  :D

What I want for the future is that Object Pascal - Free Pascal - gets it's own category.
Or, perhaps better: Lazarus gets it's own category.

This is a nice message, but I would recommend not to over-estimate the significance of the TIOBE index. Its methodology is rather insane. It simply counts queries of the form

Code: [Select]
+"<language> programming"
in search engines, YouTube and Amazon (see http://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/programming-languages-definition/ for reference). Who, being in need for a solution for a special problem in software development, seriously searches for "Object Pascal programming" (or "C programming", "Swift programming" etc.)?
function GetRandomNumber: integer; // xkcd.com
begin
GetRandomNumber := 4; // chosen by fair dice roll. Guaranteed to be random.
end;

Totally agreed.
I think IEEE is better.
Still, loads of grains of salt need be applied.

Personally I don't care much for either search.
