what is LCL?
« on: March 10, 2007, 08:49:57 pm »
I would like to participate by developing a icon editor which is marked red on the project roadmap. but my knowledge about lcl i equal to none.

My experience with programming is something I would like to expand.

(I coded thousands of lines in turbo pascal in elementary scool years), so I am not embaressed to ask what exactly is LCL and how to start developing new components for lazarus ide?

iz lcl something like Lazarus Code Library - it's sounds to me like it, but I could be seriously mistaking.

Thanks for you time.

lcl = lazarus component library

Well, I do am happy that you volunteered to build a icon editor, but someone is already working on it =) Here is the page:

http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Icon_Editor_Roadmap

Of course you can always contact that person and help him develop the icon editor.

You were probably looking at the old Roadmap. The new roadmap marks the icon editor as blue=in progress, and is located here:

http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Roadmap

> what exactly is LCL

LCL is a library with many classes, which implements a full GUI library

The first step is probably getting the latest subversion lazarus and compiling it:

http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Getting_Lazarus

And latter you add your code, and create a patch, and send it to us to be reviewed:
