We are using Lazarus 1.6.0 with FPC 3.0.0 at the moment, and it would probably be a good idea to update to 1.6.2.
However, we also have a few third-party (and one of our own) packages installed.

What is the best way to update this installation without having to add the packages one-by-one again?

That is easy: in the Lazarus menu under
Tools       there should be something like
"Build Lazarus with profile ...."
which usually includes all your personal packages.
After that rebuild they should all be there again.

Do I run the installation and select the same directory, or uninstall first? Sorry for being a bit slow today.

If you run the installation (with your current directory as the destination)
it will do the uninstall for you, or you can do the uninstall manually.
(But if I remember corrctly: KEEP your configs!)
After that: do the rebuild as described before.
