sub menu vanishes

A sub menu item on a form of mine keeps vanishing. It appears at startup and stays around for a while but after various activity I'll click on the main menu item only to discover the it gone.

I made a test button that would enable the sub menu and make it visible but when I pressed it the program crashed. Maybe there's a conflict between the sub menu and another menu. I moved the sub menu to a different main menu item and it still vanishes!

Is there some way to ensure that the sum menu always is visible?

I just now realized that my menu problem is probably due to a dumb mistake of mine.

I think that I was unknowingly closing and reopening the form and that caused it.
